About Stroud Valley Canoe Club
Stroud Valley Canoe Club is an active, small and friendly club,
with around 50 members of all ages. Based at Stroud's Stratford
Park Leisure Centre, our group includes people from Stroud,
Stonehouse, Cheltenham, Dursley, Gloucester and everywhere in
between.
The club's objectives are:
- To encourage and promote paddle sport amongst those living in
the Stroud Valleys area.
- To provide a safe and controlled environment for individuals of
all ages to develop their paddling skills.
- To allow individuals to gain nationally accredited
qualifications in coaching and paddlesport.
- To encourage groups of individuals, spanning all ages and
abilities, to take part in paddling trips to a variety of
destinations throughout the UK covering a variety of
disciplines.
To help with achieving these objectives, the club has a team of
experienced BCU and UKCC qualified coaches who work on a voluntary
basis to run sessions in the club environment.
These sessions are run both at the pool and on local areas of
open water, where structured skills can be developed, and out in
the 'wild' on trips.
Club trips during the winter are predominantly on white water at
various levels. In the warmer seasons we run in addition sea
kayaking trips and flat water trips in both kayak and open canoe
for those interested. Some members also enjoy kayak
surfing.
